I'm moving from Santa Cruz to SF for a job starting in August, and have been trolling Craigslist housing like mad this past week. There are a ton of posts for what looks like housing in hotels. Is this legit, or some kind of scam? The descriptions sound like dorm-style housing. Some have shared bathrooms, and all have shared kitchens. But rent is super cheap and I like that fact! It just seems weird to me. Along that thread, what neighborhoods are good for a recent college grad making next-to-no money and not used to city living? Right now I'm considering living in Oakland and BARTing under the bay, but I'm not sure how practical that will be in the long run. My job is near Union Square. gracias :)

Waxing Recommendations?

Semi-odd question but hoping someone on the community might have an inside scoop. I'm looking for a recommendation for a waxing salon - one that does full-body waxes - but that has some experience with chubby gals. I'm not huge or anything, but I don't have a flat stomach, either. Someplace with nice, non-judgmental staff and a pleasant atmosphere. I have had enough with horrendously unpleasant razor-burn!

As for location, frankly anywhere between San Francisco and San Jose would be fine - for this I'm willing to go out of my way. Any advice or recommendations much appreciated!

Lawyer Reccomendation Needed

Okay. So, for the past three years or so, my mother has been recieving weird calls. Sometimes hang ups, sometimes recorded audio, and other such things. The number was changed and the calls kept coming, She has caller ID.

However, the Caller ID isn't reliable. Numbers of family members come up, but there's just recorded audio at the other end. Her number doesn't show up on Google as being listed on any prank sites or "Google Missions". This is a clear cut case of flat out harassment using caller ID faker (probably) plus possibly some phone phreaking since how the hell did this person get these numbers to use?

She's complained to the phone company, who says that what she's describing is impossible, but since she also tacked on a lot of James Bond level techno conspiracy theory, I don't think they actually paid any attention and she's probably flagged in the system as a lunatic. The cops have added that harassment of this type isn't illegal and they can't do anything. I suspect that they've also flagged her as a lunatic. I would.

However, the calls are not fake and not a product of her imagination. There was one on the answering machine adressing me by name and asking me to call about my account balance/credit/something, but no contact info and I don't put the house number on forms.

Yahoo Answers says that a lawyer can petition the court to have Caller ID Faker turn over their records for specific days and times. She has been recording dates and times of these calls.

Can anyone give me a reference for lawyer, preferably in the San Jose area who deals in these things and has the paitence of a saint?

Staffing agencies

Hello, I am wondering if anyone knows of a good staffing agency.  Preferably one that is known for turning temporary assignments into permanent work.  This site lists a lot of them but I'm not sure where to start.  I don't have a specific career field in mind but I have a B.A. and ten years of customer service experience.  (Yes I know the pool of candidates who fit that description is big).  Thanks in advice.

Cross posted.

If I want a thrift store in the east bay with basic jeans and other pants that *fit*, with a good selection in the 16-18 size range for women, where should I look? One of the biggest issues is that my rheumatoid arthritis is flaring, so I can't just run from store to store and wander aisles, I need to be able to go to a rack and try on at least a couple of pairs, if possible.

Hello everyone. I just moved here to SF and I'm currently looking for a good hair salon. I'm looking for a place that's chill, that has people that are a little crazy but that know what they're doing, and that isn't too expensive. Maybe I'm a bit crazy, but something that isn't past $30/40 would be great. I live in the financial district and a place that is near, preferably walking distance, would just be perfect. Oh and I'm a guy, by the way.

Thank you very much in advance.

apartment hunting

i hate craigslist. anyone know of other venues in which to look for an apartment in the bay area? are there any real estate companies that help you with a search?
